Can anything sound more disgusting than “carrot and raisin salad”?  UNLIKELY!  And yet the one from Chick Fil A is mm-mm–good.

I’m too lazy to give you an actual recipe today.  Come on, you know how to Google.  But here’s a tip.  Go by a Chick Fil A and order their carrot and raisin salad.  No, I’m not joking.  It’s very, very good.  Here’s a pic:

Who doesn’t fondly recall the oatmeal raisin cookies of their childhood, those tasty treats that deceive unsuspecting children who assume those dark blobs are,  in fact, chocolate?  Here’s a recipe for the classic oatmeal raisin cookie.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies


3/4 cup softened butter (use imitation butter, like “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter”)

1 cup packed brown sugar (Splenda makes a brown sugar mixture)

1/2 cup sugar (again, Splenda substitutes nicely)

1/4 cup milk (make it nonfat!)

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 cups quick or old-fashioned oats

1 cup raisins


Heat oven to 350 F.

Beat butter, brown sugar, sugar, milk, egg, and vanilla until light and fluffy.

Combine flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.

Add to butter mixture.  Mix well.

Stir in oats and raisins. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets.

Let cookies cool and enjoy.

Yields 3 dozen cookies.
