Glenn Beck recently wrote a book titled “Common Sense”.  If you watch his program on Fox News or listen to his radio show, you have no doubt heard him touting it as of late.  The book is supposedly in the spirit of Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense”, the famous pamphlet that was published during the American Revolution arguing against British rule.

Let me be clear.  I actually do agree with several of Beck’s points.  He focuses on some of the failures and mistakes of both major political parties, how expansive the government has become (though in reality it has been this way for quite some time), why we shouldn’t be content with a “lesser of two evils” mentality, and so on.

Yet the writing itself is terrible.  The vast majority of the book reads like one long rant, and oftentimes it can be rather incoherent.  Beck rambles from topic to topic leaving the reader wondering how he made the connection from one point to another.  His writing is so much like his actual speech that I could not stop myself at times from picturing his flailing arms and wild facial expressions while the words resounded in his voice in my head.

If you really want to know what Beck thinks about the current state of affairs in America and the rest of the world, then save your money and watch his show on Fox News or listen to him on the radio.
